The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)

The Return of the Ring is the third part of trilogy The Lord of the Rings, based on R. Tolkien’s similar romance. The screen script was written on the second and the third volumes of this romance.
Film was directed by Peter Jackson. Starring: Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Viggo Mortensen, Orlando Bloom etc.
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King was released in Dicember, 2003 and won 11 Academy Awards.
Visual effects of Return of the King were tremendous – 1,488 effect shots. Visual effects work made by Alan Lee, Mark Lewis, Gary Horsfield.
To create Pelennor Fields they composed various pictures of New Zeland landscape. To plan enormous battle Peter Jackson used computers – up to 250 shots, 50000 characters – were now 200000 shots. They recorded 450 motions of Massive digital horses – to recreate  natural motions of horses.
In the Return of the King there are also morphs between digital doubles and actors – when Sam falling off Shelob (Astin hits the ground), for example. As practical effects we can see scenes, when Steward of Gondor throws Pippin out of the Tomb.
In its first day The Return of the King earned $34,5 million – it is a single-day record (after Spider-Man – $40 million). Worldwide The Return of the King earned $1 billion.
