Dead Man’s Chest is rich by its special effects. Gore Verbinski reviewed images of sailors from Flying Dutchman. Under legend, they were ghosts. But director wanted to make them as alive creatures. Thereby, Flying Duthman’s sailors became alive. Their hierarchy scaled from newbies to old-timers. All these hierarchiacal sings were expressed on their look – from low level mutations (rosacea) to high level (atributes of ocean creatures in sailors’ appearance).
Designers made the image on Captain Dave Jones using computer graphics. They decided to add to his look traits of octopus and crab. Captain Dave Jones’ mask became alive only on computer. Bill Nighy (dave Jones) was shot wearing make-up around eyes and mouth. And after that designer put over his face animated mask with tentacles.
In its opening day Dead Man’s Chest earned $55,8 million, in its opening weekend – $135,6 million and wordwide – $1 billion.
